Dear Brian Williams,
I’ll admit, when Tom Brokaw stepped down and you took the helm of the NBC Nightly News, I was skeptical. It wasn’t that I didn’t like you, more that I didn’t know you. Now my eyes are open wide, and I have to announce to everyone I know that you are my anchorman crush. Your friend Jon Stewart is wonderful, and there will always be a place in my heart for Chuck Scarborough, the local anchorman of my youth. But you, Brian Williams, are the gold standard.
For those who don’t know how wonderful you are, allow me to sing your praises.
- Your blog, The Daily Nightly, is brilliant. Sometimes you write about world news issues, making me think. Often though, like any blogger, you write about your observations on daily life. Your likening of gummy bears to crack-cocaine was spot on.
- Bri-Tunes. You love my kind of music, and aren’t afraid to put it out there. I can’t picture Dan Rather rocking out to Deer Tick (though if you have documentation proving me wrong, please share!).
- No one can slow jam the news quite like you.
- You’re a fan. You wrote weekly posts dissecting “The Sopranos” over at Slate. It takes a special kind of geek to take apart the minutiae of your favorite show.
- Giant Head of Brian Williams. Obviously. Your crooked smile makes you even more handsome, if that’s even possible.
Brian, you are fabulous, and everyone should know it. You have a zeal for sharing the things you love with the world. Thank you for filling my heart with joy, my anchor crush.
